OKC Pets Magazine Nov/Dec 2020

34 OKC Pets • November/December 2020 But I digress; allow me to get back on track with the “accidental discovery.” This particularly sunny Sunday, Lancelot was lying beside me while I sat at the computer, typing away on a homework assignment, and Jake was behind me. Every time I moved, Lancelot and Jake acted like they were ready to go somewhere. I could tell they were bored, so I did a quick computer search of “things to do with dogs in OKC.” Google didn’t let me down. “The Forever Yours Barket” event was taking place at Scissortail Park. Immediately, the event details caught my attention: “A day of celebrating pets and their owners!” The event included some of my favorite things—dogs, drinking and eating (no comments on the order, and, yes, I like beer). Naturally, I loaded up the dogs for the short drive to Scissortail Park. Upon our arrival at the park, I could tell the kids (my dogs) were very excited with the enticing sights and delicious smells. I let them both out of the SUV to get their leashes on, but Lancelot didn’t want to wait. He was doing the “but, Dad, I gotta go pee” dance, so he could run over to the bushes and check out the cute Goldendoodle. He’s quite the character. After leashing up, we made our way toward the tents on the main causeway. The first several tents housed the principal sponsor, Forever Yours Dog Rescue. They offered microchipping in one tent, which was reasonably priced at $20, and the rest contained baskets for silent auctions. Some of these baskets were quite desirable, and I placed a bid on one. We continued on, meeting and speaking with several of the vendors, including the owner of Pawdicure, where I had both of the kids’ nails trimmed. Next, we stopped by KWKollars and bought each a new collar. Jake is already sporting his OSU collar, but Lancelot’s is a secret as it’s one of his Christmas gifts. We also stopped by Good Dogma and had tags made for their new collars. There were several vendors that offered services as well, like Carey Pet & Home Care, a pet sitting service, and Pet Wants, a pet food company that delivers right to your door. After shopping and socializing, we finally made it to the Tiny Bubbles Mobile Bar truck to order a small libation. Had I seen the beer vendors first, I probably would have gotten a beer from either the Vanessa House or the Lively offerings. After the drink was taken care of, we purchased a small plate from Ozell’s Grill on Wheelz food truck. This made the kids extremely happy since they had other dogs to play with and food to eat. This first-time event was a great find for me and the boys on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I am certain the other dogs in attendance would all agree this should become an annual event for such a worthy cause. Forever Yours Dog Rescue will use the proceeds to help find homes for dogs trapped in shelters of small towns. They are able to house 50 dogs at a time and average 400 adoptions per year. “The Forever Yours Barket” gets rave reviews and five paws up from my crew.
