OkcPets Magazine July 2021
22 OKC Pets • July/August 2021 W ith summer in full swing, many will be venturing out, looking for places to gather and have a good meal with friends and family. In every town across America, you will find restaurants and attractions unique to that city, and Oklahoma City is no exception. The iconic Oklahoma City Bricktown area offers patrons the opportunity to visit one of the city’s biggest attractions, strolling along or traveling the scenic Bricktown canal via the water taxi. Bricktown is an area of downtown Oklahoma City that was once the industrial and warehouse district but has since been revitalized and is evolving to become a lively entertainment district. Here you will find something for everyone, including restaurants, bars, sporting events, concerts and more. On June 7, I took a small group of pups and people from Midtown Mutts Dog Park to visit this popular area so we could review one of the available restaurants, which happens to be the only openly dog-friendly restaurant in the Bricktown area. Tucked back, beside the Harkins Theatre, you will discover a casual little barbeque restaurant called Earl’s Rib Palace. Now “good barbecue” is a controversial subject anywhere you go. The use of sauce or seasoning varies widely throughout the different regions of the country. Earl’s offers a great compromise by bringing elements of the quaint, out-of-the- way barbeque restaurants to an iconic part of the city. They start with quality meats seasoned lightly with their proprietary dry rub, then slow smoke it over Oklahoma’s finest hicko- ry kindling. Earl’s sauces (Hot and Not) are still made fresh daily using the same recipe perfected 25 years ago when they first opened their doors. By Michael Bell 5 Paw Review! E A R L ’ S R I B P A L A C E
