34 OKC Pets • July/August 2021 Where pups and people play I t’s no secret I am not particularly fond of change or trying new things. However, I am extremely fond of spending as much time with my dogs, Lancelot and Jake, as possible. Most of the activities I participate in are dog friendly and centered around my boys being able to attend. I also like to enjoy a cool, refreshing beer or drink with friends, who are usually dog owners also. As the COVID-19 restrictions loosen, our city needs more outdoor and indoor activities that promote the inclusion of our furry friends. Especially if Oklahoma City wants to be nationally recognized as a pet-friendly city. That’s why the opening of Oklahoma City’s newest dog-friendly venue was great news to us all. Solo’s Park & Pub, a concept from Okla- homa City native Julianne Thomas, allows people to hang with their best friends. It doesn’t matter if your friends stand on two legs or four legs and love belly rubs, both humans and dogs alike are welcome in this venue. Because more and more people are becoming dog owners, this pet-friendly concept of taking your fur babies with you is sweeping the nation. Other restaurants should take notice that dog owners tend to go to—and spend their money at—places that allow them to take their four-legged friends. Solo’s made its debut with a soft opening on April 30. Our group from Midtown Mutts Dog Park and OKC Pets Magazine attended the grand opening on May 8, where we discovered that Solo’s offers a great time for all its members and guests. Pet parents can enjoy adult beverages and food items like burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs and salads. Games like cornhole offer additional entertainment options for you and your guest. Only humans are allowed inside the restaurant, but leashed dogs are welcome on the covered patio that features ample seating and televisions to watch your favorite sporting events.
