In case of impoundment of an animal, a dog owner will have a variety of steps to complete to take possession of the animal. These could include fines and fees and could require the owner to register the dog with the appropriate forms required by Animal Welfare. Those might include the owner’s written verification that the fence or enclosure has been repaired if that is how the dog escaped its property. If a dog is at large and is found to be menacing or dangerous, a court hearing will be set. Please be careful to keep your dog or animal on a leash when outside your home or property. Take care to keep your animal in your home or yard when you open and close doors and gates. It is also helpful to check your property for loose fencing or holes and to ensure that your dog’s leash, collar, and/or harness fit ap- propriately so as not to slide off if you take the animal outside on a walk or run.
