28 OKC Pets • March / April 2023 places where they can share experiences with their dogs, and we were able to provide that space,” Hensley said. “At that first location in Kansas City, we’ve had close to a million people come through and half a million dogs. We launched in Saint Louis in Novem- ber 2021. “ Oklahoma City is the third location for Bar K. Hensley said the fact that Oklahoma City is already a dog-friendly community helped to make it a natural place for an establishment. All the Amenities The outdoor dog park at Bar K has multi- ple play features and is fully staffed with Dogtenders. Every Dogtender undergoes intensive training on dog behavior and breed characteristics to make sure the dogs are having a good time. “The Dogtenders also help to keep the park clean, and our parks are always immac- ulately clean,” Hensley said. “In addition, the indoor dog park is climate controlled. So in the heat of the summer, it’ll be air-condi- tioned, and it will be warm in the winter.” While dogs frolic, people can enjoy the four bars in the facility. “You can have drinks anywhere through- out the facility. Although only humans are allowed in the restaurant, the patio is really special — it’s a full dine-with-your-dog experience,” Hensley said. “We have a full food menu for humans which is made from scratch in our kitchen and which we call healthy casual, and we also make food from scratch for dogs as well.” The dog menu includes dishes such as chicken risotto for dogs, beef stew, turkey and sweet potato meatballs, and turkey jerky. Bar K is an oasis of fun for dogs and their people. Four bars are among the amenities at Bar K.
