She turned and smiled back at the team working at the Pets & People Humane Society in Oklahoma City. It was a great day because she was getting a home — finally! Weeks before, Topiary had been abandoned at the El Reno Animal Shelter. Weighing 40 pounds, Topiary was by most descriptions a generic tan dog who didn’t garner much attention from shelter visitors as they perused the full cages. With El Reno’s animal census reaching capaci- ty, Topiary’s days were numbered. Cindy Bollinger, animal-care manager at Pets & People Humane Society, regularly visits city shelters in the area to identify adoptable pets that have been left there and pos- Savannah’s human mom first fostered this three-year-old feline as an Urgent rescue through Pets & People and later adopted her as a full- time companion.
