May/June 2021 • OKC Pets 15 A pproximately 6.5 million companion animals enter animal shelters nation- wide every year. Of those, approxi- mately 3.3 million are dogs, according to the ASPCA. Approximately 3.2 million shelter animals are adopted each year (1.6 million dogs and 1.6 million cats).  How about here in Oklahoma? Since the beginning of the OK Humane Society in 2007, the group has found homes for over 30,000 cats and dogs! How did they do this? Well, I reached out to my good friend and the President and CEO of the OK Humane Society Dana McCrory to find out.  “One of the most important factors in successfully placing pets with new families is complete honesty.
