DDL Treats W hen Amy Long’s dog Dallas de- veloped diabetes in 2020, she was determined to give him the best possible care and healthy food. She developed special high-quality treats for Dallas and his female chum, Dixie. That eventually led Long to launch DDL Treats in 2022, named for Dallas and Dixie Long (both miniature Australian Shepherds). The first treat Long devised was made of pumpkin. She knew her pups like seasonal pumpkin treats and that pumpkin is good for a dog’s digestion. She added turkey as a second treat and is planning to add chicken treats later. The treats have a slightly chewy texture like brownies. The pumpkin treats contain pumpkin, oats, apples, eggs, and water. The turkey treats consist of ground turkey, oats, apples, eggs, bacon, and water. The treats are packaged in 4.76-ounce vacu- um-sealed containers and are kept frozen until they are sold. Then they are refriger- ated because they contain no preservatives and need to be kept slightly moist. This makes them unique from other treats, Long says. “These treats have an Association of American Feed Control Officials label and guaranteed analysis,” she adds. DDL Treats is home based and family operated, but Long plans to expand. At first, she sold only to family and friends, but in February 2023, she sold at An Affair of the Heart craft show. Since March, she has sold on weekends at Lakeview Market, a farmers’ market near Lake Overholser. She plans to be at Dog Days of Oklahoma with her treats and at several other events throughout 2023. Long also plans to continue to take ex- cellent care of Dallas, who is now 13, and Dixie, who is seven. After all, they were her first customers. DDL treats are not sold online at present.
