OkcPets Magazine September 2021

4 OKC Pets • September/October 2021 W elcome, dear reader! I don’t think we need to offer any explanation about who’s on our front cover for this issue except to perhaps explain that the dog is OKC’s First Dog, Logan! We’re beyond thrilled that Mayor David Holt agreed to grace our September cover, and we send a HUGE thank you to him and his family for participating with us. Be sure to read all about the Holts on page 8. Bob Moore Subaru has opened its “Paw Park,” an onsite dog park for its customers’ furry friends. This is another testament to OKC’s growing pet friendliness and another reason for pet parents to shop where their four- legged friends are appreciated. A big shout-out to Bob Moore Subaru for a first for the OKC area! How about some vulture culture? Kim Doner gives us some little-known facts about these birds and how important they are to our food chain. I’ve never given much thought to vultures, quite honestly, but I’m glad to in- clude this interesting and educational piece so we can all appreciate them. Homeowners are insisting on more and more amenities for their pets, and builders are accommodating. How far we’ve come over the years! When I grew up, we had Milk Bones and a metal dog bed for our poodle Gigi, and she also had a rubber hamburger as a toy. None of these plush comfortable beds costing $200 and up, no array of pet foods and treats, and not a designer dog sweater in sight! Now homeowners want a pet washing station in their laundry room, built-in cat litter boxes, and much more. Heide Brandes highlights some of these pet amenities in her article on page 32. I’m glad to include Travis Brorsen’s article on “respecting the growl.” He provides some great clarification to pet owners that growling does not always mean aggression. Read it through and pass this information on to other pet owners. Our holiday issue is next up, and we’ll provide holiday ornaments for sale to benefit local rescues, which need donations now more than ever. Keep on the lookout for information on our Facebook page. All the best, and happy fall!
