Summer Heatly grew up in south- western Oklahoma and developed an interest in veterinary medicine and a strong passion for four-legged creatures at a young age. In 2009, she graduated from the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine and then completed a one-year internship at Peterson and Smith Equine Hospital in Ocala, Florida, prior to returning to Oklahoma. In January 2015, Dr. Heatly founded Great Plains Veterinary Services as a full-service mobile hospital. With the rapid growth of business and increased clientele, Great Plains is proud to announce its expansion with a stationary full-service small and large animal clinic, located in Arcadia. Dr. Heatly is joined by Dr. Clairissa Maples and the most recent addition to the team, Dr. Beth Parsons. Great Plains is also proud to offer large animal ambulatory services, mobile wireless digital X-ray, ultrasound, upper airway endoscopy, dentistry, lameness and reproductive services. Dr. Heatly’s advice to horse owners is “take good care of your horse, and your horse will take good care of you. A proper balance of exercise, diet and preventative care is key in a horse’s longevity.” But when unexpected medical needs arise, Great Plains is there for you and your equine partner. “I’m still amazed daily at what we can bring a horse back from with modern medicine and a dedicated team,” Dr. Heatly says.
