In this exciting competition, trainers take on wild mares and geldings for approximately 100 days, to showcase the beauty, versatility and trainability of these creatures. It’s an event not to be missed for all you equine lovers, so mark your calendars and come attend at the State Fair Park in OKC. The art of barn quilting has been around for decades, but barn quilting trails have become popular over the last 20 years The tradition began as a way to honor a loved one, and the barn quilts are generally chosen from the family’s own colorful quilt pattern that has been passed down through the years. Then the family’s quilt pattern is turned into public art displayed on their own barn, home or other building and added to a quilt trail, which is a collection of places to visit in a given area on a walking or driving trail, all featuring a unique barn quilt. Read about two of these history-rich trails right here in Oklahoma on page 8. Obesity in horses is a real problem. About 50-60% of horses in the U.S. and Europe are deemed to be obese, without the owners even realizing they have a problem on their hands. Dr. Kris Hiney discusses the issue of overweight equines and presents safe solutions to losing those extra pounds. The Right Path in Drumright is celebrating 25 years of providing therapeutic riding for people with special needs, and it’s accomplishing great things.
