OklahomaHorses Magazine July 2023

10 OklahomaHorses • July / August 2023 Rudy eventually faced another challenge — he developed several cancerous lesions on one eye, so it had to be removed surgically. The procedure was performed at OSU Veterinary Medical Hospital, and Rudy came through with flying colors. Saying Good-bye On March 28, 2023, Cross went out to do some chores. When she came back, she discovered that Rudy had unexpectedly died while Crash calmly stood watch over him. Although the staff didn’t know Rudy’s exact age, they think he was about 25 years old. “He never struggled, and he seemed to go peacefully,” Cross stated. Nevertheless, she was devastated. Both Cross and Crash, as well as so many others who knew Rudy, are still grieving his loss today. However, Cross said it’s good that Rudy went before Crash because she’s not sure Rudy could have handled losing another best friend. As a final update on Rudy’s page on the rescue’s website, Cross stated, “He taught us to live and love our lives to the fullest. He loved life! But sometimes I think he truly loved his life more after his injury. Once he came to us, it was like we had always been together.” If you would like to make a donation in Rudy’s honor, please mail it to Blaze’s Tribute Equine Rescue, P. O.
