The ranch has been operated as a working ranch with Texas longhorn cattle and other livestock. The Cherokee Nation purchased 162 acres. The ranch will continue operations through the rest of the season under Cherokee Nation Businesses, with plans for renovation next year. Be sure to visit the Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch so your family too can take some pictures and make some memories. Who knows? It might become one of your favorite outings. Will Rogers/Wiley Post Fly-in Is Set August 12 A great time to visit the Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch is 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. August 12 for the free annual Will Rogers/Wiley Post Fly-in National Day of Remembrance. The fly-in, sponsored by the Cherokee Nation, is one of the largest in Oklahoma, with more than 100 planes. Will Rogers was a spokesman for the fledgling aviation industry, andWiley Post was a pioneer pilot who flew around the world twice and set speed records. They were killed when their plane crashed in Alaska on August 15, 1935. The National Day of Remembrance honors all those who have lost their lives in the crash of a small airplane. Visitors can get close to the planes and talk to the pilots. Classic cars will be on display, and food trucks will be available. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Check the birthplace Facebook page for weather updates. In case of inclement weather, the event will not be rescheduled.
