For those of you who don’t already know him, meet Tattoo the Appaloosa, our cover horse. He has a huge following on Instagram, and he also has quite a tale of happily ever after. Thank you to his owner, Branigan Kuhns, for sharing their story with us. Another heart-warmer is “Stray.” Rescued from Tulsa Animal Welfare and allegedly abused, stray horse Bubby lucked out and is now living his best life with a loving family and a rescued goat. You’re going to love this one, too, so don’t forget to read it. Also, it’s inevitable—with spring comes mud. Dr. Kris Hiney cautions about the dangers of mud to horses’ hooves and the possible dangers of both horses and humans falling in the mud (no one wants to risk falling in mud and being in harm’s way on the ground with horses around). Thank you, Dr. Hiney, for providing this useful information. And thank you to Dr. Grace Owen for her informative article on core equine vaccinations. It’s a good resource to keep on hand! Last but not least, we shine a spotlight on the Tulsa Boys’ Home and its equine therapy program, which has proven beneficial for both the boys and horses. The Tulsa Boys’ Home has been in existence since 1918 and started its equine program in 2008. Kudos to them for providing such a worthwhile, life- changing program to these young men.
