4 OklahomaHorses • May/June 2021 H owdy to all you horse lovers! It’s a nice feeling to get back to some semblance of normal after the past year. I have a greater appreciation for the little things, such as going to a restaurant, visiting with family and friends, and shopping! It’s so true that you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone. I’m hopeful that things will continue on this upward spiral. I love the story in this issue on Rubén Rodríguez, also someone who appreciates the little things, at Tener’s Western Outfitters. It’s almost like a trip back in time, and I know there’s so much history there. I am going to make it a point to visit Tener’s and say hello to Rubén at my first opportunity. With the warmer weather coming on, we’re sure many of you will be hitting the trail. Be sure to read Dr. Kris Hiney’s piece about possible emergencies you might encounter on the trail and what you can do to avoid or remedy them. It’s valuable information to keep on hand. Equine lameness is another serious issue, and Dr. Schoonover at OSU talks about the causes and possible treatments. Read all about it on page 20. Also on the topic of health, Dr. Grace Owen at Equine Medical Associates in Edmond talks about the different equine chiropractic methods and adjustments for equines. It’s fantastic that we have so many medical options these days for our equine companions.
