President and CEO Jay Posey explains that his family has a long-standing reputation in the forest industry dating back to his grandfather. “In 1980, my father, Clayton, was approached by a local businessman in need of shavings for his horses,” Posey says. “He asked if [my father] knew where to get some, knowing he had connections in the lumber industry. Clayton got to work trying to find shavings. One thing led to another, and he ended up having more peo- ple asking for shavings. Xylo was officially founded in 1981. The business continued to grow from that point forward. We start- ed producing bedding pellets in 2005 and burning pellets in 2012.” Shavings Xylo offers kiln-dried screened pine shav- ings in four-cubic-foot bags. The company keeps a large inventory of bags on hand at all times and requires no minimum purchase if they are picked up at the Wayne location. Xylo also sells bulk shavings. “We like to consider our shavings to be a small to medium flake,” says Dewayne VanSchuyver, sales manager. “The shavings come with 45 bags per pallet. Both pellets and shavings come with covers and are shrink-wrapped so they can easily be stored outside.” Pellets Xylo produces 100 percent pine bedding pellets that have consistent texture, are highly absorbent, and are environmentally friendly.
