OklahomaHorses Magazine November 2021
14 OklahomaHorses • November/December 2021 the longest. They are in great health and continue to pull carriag- es nearly every weekend. “Rocket is a hitch-style horse. He is a prancer and a bit of a princess,” Kathy noted fondly. Purchased from an Amish farm, six-year-old Jax is the newest addition to her small herd, but Kathy said all three horses are very sweet and well-suited for what they do. The horses are quite pampered, getting regular grooming, baths and even coat vacu- uming to keep them looking handsome. Holiday carriage rides As they’ve done in years past, Ava K’s Carriage Service will once again be at Winterfest in downtown Tulsa to give holiday carriage rides on Friday and Saturday evenings. However, due to COVID restrictions (to avoid long lines), all carriage rides need to be booked in advance through Kathy’s website, avakscarriage- service.com, or by calling 918- 2 77-1810. Kathy typically does two types of rides for the Winterfest event: a six-block or a nine-block ride that last anywhere from 13 to 20 minutes and come complete with holiday music if so desired. The longer of the two rides travels down historic Boston Avenue, which Kathy said she really enjoys seeing during the holiday season. Tulsa’s 14th annual Arvest Winterfest will kick off Friday, Nov. 19, and will last through Monday, Jan. 3. Aside from the holiday carriage rides provided by Ava K’s, other Winterfest events include outdoor ice skating, holiday lights and Christmas train rides. Ava K’s also books private and corporate holiday parties and events and has many recurring clients. “We take a lot of pride in the way we handle things,” Kathy said. “From the beginning, I’ve said that we wanted to be classy, elegant and provide the best experience possible. That’s some- thing we’ve always done well.” If you’re interested in booking Ava K’s Carriage Service for a ride or event, they recommend contacting them at least two weeks ahead of time for a romantic ranch carriage ride, at least four months in advance to book a wedding and even farther ahead for holiday events, as those tend to be quite popular.
