26 OklahomaHorses • November/December 2021 by Kim Redo T he 3D Ranch Arena in Wellston hosted its third 2021 United States Mounted Shooting (USMS) sanctioned event over Labor Day weekend. Owners Walker and Tiffany Dixon were thrilled to see shooters pulling in from nine states Thursday through Saturday morning. Seasoned shooters, folks who had not competed in years and new shooters convened Friday evening for practice at the arena and later for a cool swim in the pool. Typical of matches everywhere, old friendships were rekindled and life- long friendships formed. The sun rose over the far side of the arena Saturday morning, highlighting 13 American flags waving from the arena panels. The dedication and prayer starting the event solemnly addressed American lives lost in Afghanistan during the withdrawal, as well as the freedoms we here at home all too often take for granted. The presentation of the American and Oklahoma flags accompa- nied by a beautiful rendition of the national anthem preceded the first shooter of the day. In the sport of mounted shooting, a competitor is equipped with two .45-caliber single-action pistols, much like the days of Mounted Shooting Hits Oklahoma with a NEW PLAYER Tiffany riding Chexie, Horse of the Year 2020 Walker and Tiffany Dixon fromWellston, OK, who own the 3D Ranch and host shooting matches
