OklahomaHorses always enjoys featuring a spectrum of horse people from younger to older. We are pleased to highlight another equine center for students, the Charles and Linda Cline Equine Teaching Center at Oklahoma State University. You will also like to read about 65-year-old barrel racer Dona Kay Rule and 83-year-old mounted patrolman Ed Sain. An article about Dr. Lesa Staubus of the Kirkpatrick Foundation gives a serious look at how to promote more humane treatment for farm animals. Attorney and avid horseman Adam Trenk offers a unique perspective on mitigating risks for people who own or are involved with horses. Three articles in this issue show how the past connects with the present, and Oklahoma’s favorite son makes two fleeting appearances on our pages. Our editor, Rowena Mills, discusses how Will Rogers’ father, Clem Rogers, and other ranchers organized a stockmen’s association and published a brand book in the 1880s to protect against the loss or theft of livestock.
