Even though Oklahoma is densely populated by horses, there are still many people who don’t interact with horses regularly or at all. “I’ve had horses my whole life, and so I know what a positive attribute they’ve been to me and how I’ve benefited from interacting with a horse,” Hoch said. “I want to allow people who otherwise wouldn’t get to see or meet a horse to have that opportunity. Horses can be life-changing.” With many lofty goals for the program itself, the most important for Hoch would be for it to spread nationwide. “This is the third or fourth time we’ve partnered with the police department for a program like this, and we plan to keep on growing it,” Hoch said. “We would love to see other departments replicate this program across the country.
