4 TulsaPets • January/February 2021 Welcome to 2021! There’s reason to celebrate 2021 just for the fact it’s not 2020—am I right? But 2021 brings a special meaning to us at TulsaPets Magazine because it means we’re starting year 15 of publication. Wow! It’s hard to believe that 15 years have flown by, and we’re still here and growing, thanks to our loyal readers and advertisers. Please wish us a happy birthday and many more! A fresh year means fresh topics, and we’ve got quite a range in store, from Oklahoma’s flying squirrels (yes, you read that right!) and parakeets to killer whales (not local yet connected). All three are educational and entertaining reads we hope you enjoy. We’re also shining a spotlight on the legalities of who gets the pets in sit- uations of divorce. While there are no hard and fast rules for this answer, Heide Brandes spoke with three attorneys who offer different possible outcomes. Hopefully, all family members will keep the best interests of the pets in mind when a family splits. KTUL Chief Meteorologist Dan Threlkeld has quite a Facebook follow- ing for not only weather forecasts but also photos and updates on his rescue dog, Kate. We expound on some of his (and his followers’) favorite subjects on page 16. And we applaud the efforts of a new rescue organization, Outsiders TNR, whose mission is to trap, neuter and return feral cats to their colo- nies. While there are many different schools of thought on TNR, we feel this grassroots group deserves recognition and support from the pet-lov- ing community. So we’re kicking off 2021 with these great stories and many more (be sure to read cover to cover to enjoy it all). Truly, we wish everyone a happy, healthy 2021!
