March/April 2021 • TulsaPets 31 Pet Owner’s Cleaning Checklist J onna Stogner—owner of Tulsa Clean Team and dog mom to a Pit Bull, an American Bully and Chihuahuas—has been cleaning homes for 12 years and recently added a veterinary clinic to her rotation. Stogner’s cleaning tips center on taming pet hair accumu- lation, containing food spills and stopping dirty paws at the door. Use a lint roller. Stogner finds hot spots for pet hair are lamp- shades, cushions and any fabric areas. “Frequently running a lint roller over these areas will keep hair from accumulating,” she says. “Vacuum hose attachments are great for pet hair. Vacuum cushions at least once a week.” Wipe chair and table legs before mopping. “Another area that attracts hair is table and chair legs. If you move chairs around while mopping, you will be moving that accumulated hair around with it if not wiped beforehand.” Vacuum frequently accord- ing to breed. Depending on the pet you have—a German Shepherd, for example—you may need to vacuum three to four times a week, Stogner says. “Robot vacuums do serve a pur- pose, and that’s a good purpose for them. For a small dog that doesn’t shed as much, vacuum no less than twice a week.” Cover pets’ favorite lounge areas with a fitted sheet. “It helps keep smells out of the upholstery, and you can swap them out every few days,” Stogner says. Use a hard plastic mat with a lip around the sides to keep dog food bowls and water off the floor. “Also, clean food and water bowls often so they don’t get a film.” Keep a hand towel near the back door for rainy days. “That way, you can wipe your dogs’ paws before they come inside,” Stogner says. “Keep a basket near the door to hold the towel and even toss a brush in there. Or add a hook near the door to hang the towel. I use the towel a couple of times before tossing it in the dirty laundry.” Wash pet bedding on the same day you bathe your dog or at least once a week. “I suggest baking soda and vinegar to neutralize odors in pet beds,” she adds. “It’s best to have a machine washable bed to toss the whole thing in.” For extra freshness between baths, Stogner suggests Out! Pet Care Body Mist with Odor Control. “It really helps with stopping smells.” APRIL SPECIAL Buy a 12-month supply of heartworm prevention and get a $15 heartworm test. 104 N Gilcrease MuseumRd | Tulsa, OK 74127 | 918-585-9369 www.pawsitiveveterinarycare.us Mon-Fri 7:30 am - 5:30 pm | Sat 8 -11 am Jennifer Anderson, D.V.M. 6703-L E. 81st St., Tulsa, OK 74133 Salon 918-495-1081•Mobile 918-807-4515 www.K9DesignsTulsa.net For Your CONVENIENCE We Come To You
