TulsaPets Magazine March 2021
4 TulsaPets • March/April 2021 T echnology never ceases to amaze me, and the new Pain Trace technology at Animal Acupuncture is a real game changer in the field of veterinary medicine. This new technology not only measures an animal’s ability to perceive pain—so medical personnel and pet parents can accurately assess how much pain an animal is in—but also reads changes in the pain levels after treatments and, hopefully, the resolution of it. Read all about Pain Trace on page 8. I have a hunch we’ll be hearing a lot more about this in the near future. Next, like us, we know pet owners love knowing where they can shop, eat or just hang out, and take their pup along. So we’ve included some businesses that are not pet-related in nature yet are pet-friendly locales that welcome your fur friends. We advocate supporting all of these local small businesses in Tulsa that allow pets, and please let us know of any special pet-friendly places you encounter. You may recall we featured a piece in our last issue on TNR (Trap- Neuter-Return), a method for dealing with feral cat communities. We received some responses to this article, and we’re including another point of view that was submitted on the subject. While we feel it’s important to address both sides of this issue, we recognize and appreciate that everyone has the best interests of the strays at heart. There really is no good answer for feral cat colonies. Lastly, we dedicate this issue to a special pup named Stewie, and he graces our cover with pride. Although we didn’t know Stewie, he belonged to a great friend, Nancy Gallimore. She and her partner Jim Thomason live to rescue dogs, and they found this handsome puppy at Tulsa Animal Welfare. They quickly adopted him, and he lived a wonderful eight months until his kidneys suddenly failed him at 1 year old. He created a special place in the hearts of many, especially in the hearts of his two pet parents. We grieve with Nancy and Jim for their loss. Rest in peace and run free, Stewie!
