22 TulsaPets • May/June 2021 Bluemoon Gliders A fter retiring, animal lover Karen Kemper found a new full-time job in raising sugar gliders. “I had heard of them and did a little research,” she says. Soon after, a friend from church who owned sugar gliders suggested Karen get into raising them. “It was a God thing,” she adds. “I thought maybe I am really meant to help the glider community.” Sugar gliders are small nocturnal animals with a lifespan up to 15 years. The tiny creatures turned out to be just what Karen needed, and Bluemoon Gliders was born at the beginning of 2020. “They are the sweetest little things; they get to know you and come to de- pend on you. They’re also smart. I love babies, and they have babies a lot. They said, ‘They have babies all the time,’ and I said, ‘That’s for me.’ I keep babies in the nursery at church, and I love my sugar glider babies the same way.” All of Bluemoon’s gliders are lineaged, listed in The Pet Glider database, fed a high-quality nutritious diet and raised in a healthy, loving environment in Karen’s home. “They are very much a part of our family,” Karen says of the 75 sugar gliders in her care. Karen suggests that all potential owners “do their research” before jumping into ownership. Sugar gliders require attention, care and dedication just like any other household pet, but they will also “steal your heart and become a member of the family.” To learn more, visit bluemoongliders.com, call (307) 299-8534 or like “Bluemoon gliders” on Facebook. Polo Grill L ocated in Utica Square, Polo Grill has been a Tulsa tradition of excellence for three decades, offering guests the very finest service and cuisine. The restaurant and Chef/Proprietor Robert Merrifield have won numerous awards over the years, and while they are proud of those awards, they say they are most proud, that “you, our guest, come to visit often.” Since its beginnings, the initial dining space expanded to include a wine cellar/private dining room combination, a larger bar area and private wine tasting rooms. Along with the physical expansion, the restaurant wine collection also grew. Today, it rivals any in the country with over 1,100 labels and 22,000 bottles. More recently in 2020, the Polo Lounge, with a second bar and comfortable seating, was added along with indoor space for live music. As Tulsa has grown and changed with the times, so has Polo Grill. What began as a modest bar and single dining room has expanded to a main dining room and five private dining rooms, a beautiful granite-topped bar and cozy booths in the lounge, the Polo Lounge and a pet-friendly patio, plus a full-service catering operation and the finest wine program in Oklahoma.
