It’s Violet Lamson, the packed-with-personality Mini Schnauzer owned by Chuck and Leigh Lamson. Find out how they got their dog on the cover on page 9! You may recall last issue featured “Stewie” on the cover, a Dalmatian that passed too young and quite suddenly. Nancy Gallimore has shared his story, which is terribly bittersweet. It is a great reminder to all of us to cherish each moment with our precious pet family members. Grab the tissues, and read it until the very end. Then go hug your fur babies. Nancy and Stewie will be in my thoughts for a long, long while. Also in this issue, our resident wildlife expert Kim Doner gives us some not-so-common insight into a commonly spotted creature, the fox. Speaking of wild creatures, I can’t imagine being a vet for the Tulsa Zoo (simply because I’m just too much of a coward), but Kay Backues gets up close and personal about her job of 23 years as the head veterinarian. What an exciting career to get to know all the various animals and to be in their lives for so long. Thank you to Dr. Backues and the Tulsa Zoo for allowing us a glimpse into your important work. We’ve included the contest winners for Studio D’s annual Cutest Pet Contest, and, boy, are they cute! Be sure to check out these beauties on page 8.
