TulsaPets Magazine May 2022
4 TulsaPets • May/June 2022 H ello, dear reader! And a big thank you for picking up this copy of TulsaPets Magazine . The thought of dogs living on chains, some for perhaps their entire lives, is a terribly hard thought to stomach. Maybe the dog doesn’t know any other life, but what a poor life he’s stuck with. I’m constantly appalled at the way some people treat animals, and chaining is an unimaginable life of hell. We’re fortunate to have Unchain OK here in our state, which is a division of the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals. This group works tirelessly, statewide, to help get dogs off chains. It’s not easy work, as you can well imagine. I’m so glad to include more information on UnchainOK in this issue, and warning, some of the photos are hard to see. We encourage donations to Unchain OK to keep up their efforts to get dogs off chains. Be sure to check out their website at www. animalallianceok.org/unchain. So what about raccoons? I’ve never encountered one but I do trust Kim Doner’s repeated instructions that “you don’t want them as a pet.” Read about the warnings and cautions of encountering one, also in this issue. On a happier note, you’ve got to check out the cats at Tulsa Botanic Garden, Linden and Larry. Two hams living the good life and basking in their fame. By the way, it’s well worth a trip there to see the glorious gardens. And you might just catch a glimpse of Larry or Linden. To introduce our cover features, please meet Hershey, Brickle, Brickle Jr., and Barkley. These long-haired Dachshunds are Adam Seward’s dogs, and you’ll have to agree that they’re really adorable. Thank you, Adam, for sharing these cuties with us! There’s much more to explore in these pages. We thank our advertisers and writers and readers!
