4 TulsaPets • November / December 2022 W ell, we went and did it again! After my partner Steve and I lost Elmer, the house just seemed way too quiet and empty without a dog. Then I found myself looking at all the dogs available for adoption at online rescue sites. One photo struck a particular chord, and I kept going back to look at this little fellow. He was on the Lab Rescue OK site, named Freedom. Then I thought, well, I might as well fill out an application so I can become an approved adopter, just in case . That wasn’t how things worked out, and we adopted Freedom, now known as Fred, two days later. Having a puppy has been an interesting experience because it has been years since we’ve had a pup. Fred is particularly adept at digging up and finding weird things in the yard, and of course, they always end up in his mouth. A few months later, we went to a Lab Rescue event to show off Fred, and we met another hound that caught our eyes. We got nothing but good reports on him, and he came for a meet and greet, which sealed the deal. LeeRoy’s his name, and he’s a big black blockhead Lab with a sweet personality. Wish us luck! And by the way, a huge hats off to Lab Rescue OK. They were so responsive, and the adoption process was organized and went seamlessly. Thank you, Lab Rescue OK! So enough of us — we want to introduce the cute lil rascal on the cover. She’s Sofia Grace, a 10-month old Bernese Mountain Dog owned by Angel Askins of Angel’s Pet Funeral Home. Sofia lives with two other Berners, Yadi and Crosby, and we hear that she gives her brothers heck and helps keep the household lively. So go grab a hot coffee or chocolate and settle in to read our new issue. Thanks to everyone for a great year, and we look forward to 2023.
