September / October 2023 • TulsaPets 31 Trivia for a Cause Event Will Benefit Pause4Paws’ Program for People and Pets by Rowena Mills | Photos courtesy of Pause4Paws W hen you attend the Trivia for a Cause evening on October 25 to benefit Pause4Paws, you will not only have a chance to play games and win prizes, you will help people and their pets navigate the challenging times in their lives. The fifth annual event will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the the University of Oklahoma–Tulsa Founders Hall Learning Center, 4502 East 41st Place. Activities will include trivia games for all ages on a broad range of topics such as pop culture or even medical terminology, says Clara Ndiraya, executive director of Pause4Paws. Also on the agenda are a dessert auction and an in-person and online silent auction and raffle. Prizes such as event tickets, get- away trips, and dog or cat gift baskets will be offered. A trivia web page will be live on the Pause4Paws website before the event. Sponsorships for Trivia for a Cause are available, Ndiraya adds. During the first four years, the event became so successful that it eventually had to be moved to a larger venue, she says. All proceeds will go toward Pause4Paws’ goal of promoting access to health care for pet owners in the Tulsa metropolitan area who are impacted by homelessness, mental illness, or addiction and need inpatient treatment but have no one to care for their pets during that time. When pet owners find themselves in need of emergency treatment, Pause4Paws helps by facilitating temporary pet fosters for as long as 60 days so owners can find the care they need for themselves. Pause4Paws is a nonprofit organization that aims, through volunteer foster homes and donations, to help with kindness and compassion when they are needed most. The story of Milton and his orange tabby cat, Romeo, is an example of how Pause- 4Paws gives practical and moral support. Milton and Romeo were newly homeless, living in a car, and running out of food and cat litter. Pause4Paws supplied food, litter, and information on how Milton could con- tinue to provide for Romeo. Shortly after that, Milton had to be hospitalized with a serious health problem. Pause4Paws found a foster home for Romeo and had him vaccinated and neutered. After Milton was released from the hospital, he and Romeo were reunited and found the courage to move forward through their difficulties. Tickets for Trivia for a Cause are available through https://www.eventbrite.com. A link will be on the Pause4Paws website.
