8 OklahomaHorses • January/February 2022 In a Flash Chasing a Dream in Oklahoma by Lindsay Humphrey Photographs courtesy of Carolyn Simancik Photography C arolyn Simancik grew up in a place where soccer was king, but she had an innate love for horses. Later in life, she dreamed of becoming a horse trainer. A fire was lit under that dream when an economic crash in Motor City prompted Simancik to change careers and locations. “I grew up like most kids in the suburbs,” Simancik said. “I had no idea what 4-H or FFA were, but I’ve always loved horses. When I was younger, my mom and I would go to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, and trail ride.” JustinWright rides Scooter Kat at home. “He turned the cow and then circled it. That circle was so epic that we named the photo ‘The Ring of Fire,’” Carolyn Simancik said. Carolyn Simancik enjoys the challenges of photographing horses and riders from arena to racetrack.
